Welcome to SurveyMonkey's weekly update on President Donald Trump's job approval rating. Our surveys track the percentage of Americans who approve and disapprove of the job Trump is doing as president, and we post weekly results here every Thursday. Details on the latest results, past findings and our methods follow below.

This week (November 1-7), 45 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president and 53 percent disapprove, a one percentage point uptick in approval and a one-point drop in disapproval since the previous week. Trump’s job approval rating had recently risen as high as 47 percent in SurveyMonkey tracking for two weeks in late September and early October. It has varied between 44 and 46 percent for the last four weeks.

The most recent SurveyMonkey online poll was conducted November 1 through November 7, 2018 among a national sample of 14,021 adults. Respondents for this survey were selected from more than 2 million people who take surveys on the SurveyMonkey platform each day. Data were weighted for age, race, sex, education, and geography using the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey to reflect the demographic composition of the United States. The modeled error estimate for this survey is plus or minus 1.5 percentage points.

October 25-31: 44 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president and 54 percent disapprove, a two percentage point decline in approval and a two-point increase in disapproval since the previous week. Trump’s approval had risen as high as 47 percent in SurveyMonkey tracking for two weeks in late September and early October, but has now regressed to the middle of the range (between 43 and 45 percent) where it had been for twelve weeks before that.

October 18-24: 46 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president and 52 percent disapprove, a one percentage point uptick in approval since the previous week. Trump’s approval has been higher the past three weeks -- varying between 45 and 47 percent -- after falling within the range of 43 to 45 percent for twelve weeks before that.

October 11-17: This week, 45 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president and 52 percent disapprove, a two percentage point decline in approval since the previous week. Trump's approval registered at 47 percent for the previous two weeks, after falling within the range of 43 to 45 percent for twelve weeks before that.

October 4-10: For the second consecutive week, 47 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president and 51 percent disapprove, marks that are the best for Trump in SurveyMonkey’s tracking since the earliest days of his administration. Trump's approval had fallen within the range of 43 to 45 percent for the previous twelve weeks.

September 27-October 3: This week, 47 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president and 51 percent disapprove, representing a three percentage point increase in approval and three point decline in disapproval from the previous week. Those marks are Trump’s best in SurveyMonkey’s tracking since the earliest days of his administration. Trump's approval had fallen within the range of 43 to 45 percent for the previous twelve weeks.

September 20-26: This week, 44 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president and 54 percent disapprove, unchanged from the previous week. SurveyMonkey’s tracking has shown Trump's approval falling within the range of 43 to 45 percent for the past twelve weeks.

September 13-19: This week, 44 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president (a one point increase) and 54 percent disapprove (a one point decrease). SurveyMonkey’s tracking has shown Trump's approval falling within the range of 43 to 45 percent for the past eleven weeks.

September 6-12: This week, 43 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president (no change from the previous week) and 55 percent disapprove (a one point increase). SurveyMonkey’s tracking has shown Trump's approval falling within the range of 43 to 45 percent for the past ten weeks.

August 30-September 5: Down a point from the previous week, 43 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president this week, and 54 percent disapprove (also a one point decrease). SurveyMonkey’s tracking has shown Trump's approval falling within the range of 43 to 45 percent for the past nine weeks.

August 23-39: Unchanged from the previous week, 44 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president this week, and 55 percent disapprove (a one point increase). Based on SurveyMonkey’s tracking since early April, Trump’s current approval continues to fall within the range over the past several months -- 44 to 46 percent. It has registered at 44 percent for four of the past six weeks.

August 16-22, 2018: Down a point from the previous week, 44 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president this week, and 54 percent disapprove. Based on SurveyMonkey’s tracking since early April, Trump’s current approval continues to fall within the range over the past several months -- 44 to 46 percent.

August 9-15, 2018: Up a point from the previous week, 45 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president this week, and 52 percent disapprove. Based on SurveyMonkey’s tracking since early April, Trump’s current approval falls within the range over the past several months -- 44 to 46 percent.

August 2-8, 2018 - Unchanged from last week, 44 percent of Americans approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president this week, and 54 percent disapprove. Based on SurveyMonkey’s tracking since early April, Trump’s current approval falls within the range over the past several months—44 to 46 percent.

July 26-August 1, 2018 - 44 percent of Americans approve of the way President Donald Trump is handling his job as president, and 54 percent disapprove, a one-point tick up in approval and down in disapproval since the previous week.  While the previous week’s result was slightly lower, Trump’s current approval falls within the range—44 to 46 percent—of his approval since early April in SurveyMonkey tracking.

July 19-25, 2018 - This week, 43 percent of Americans approve of the way President Donald Trump is handling his job as president, and 55 percent disapprove, a one-point tick down in approval and up in disapproval since the previous week. While the one-week change remains well within the typical range of random error, this week’s result represents a three percentage point decline from 46 percent over the past four weeks and Trump’s lowest approval rating since April. Trump’s approval rating had varied between 44 and 46 percent from early April until last week.

July 12-18, 2018 - 44 percent of Americans approve of the way President Donald Trump is handling his job as president, and 54 percent disapprove, a one-point tick down in approval and up in disapproval since the previous week.  Trump’s approval rating has varied between 44 and 46 percent since early April. The percentage who strongly approve of Trump’s performance declined from 28 to 26 percent, while the number who strongly disapprove increased 3 points, from 41 to 44 percent, the highest since early March.

July 5-11, 2018 - This week, 45 percent of Americans approve of the way President Donald Trump is handling his job as president, and 53 percent disapprove, a one-point tick down in approval and up in disapproval since the previous week. Trump approval had varied between 44 and 45 percent for the previous twelve weeks before that. Trump's strong approval rating has continued a gradual increase in recent weeks, rising to 28 percent the last two weeks from a range of 26 to 27 percent from mid-may through June and from 24 to 25 percent from March through May. Nearly all of the increase in strong approval comes from Republicans and independents who lean Republican.

June 28-July 4, 2018 - President Donald Trump’s job approval rating ticked up over the past week to its highest level in SurveyMonkey tracking since April 2017. This week, 46 percent of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, an increase of two percentage points, and 52 percent disapprove, a two-point decrease. Trump approval had varied between 44 and 45 percent for the previous twelve weeks.

June 21-27, 2018 - Despite an increased focus on immigration over the past two weeks, President Donald Trump’s job approval rating is unchanged. 44 percent of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, and 54 percent disapprove, the same as the previous week. Trump approval has varied between 44 and 45 percent for the past twelve weeks.

June 14-20, 2018 - After five consecutive unchanged weeks, President Donald Trump’s job approval rating ticked down, but remains within the random sampling range of where it has been for months. This week, 44 percent of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, a one point decrease, and 54 percent disapprove, a two-point upturn. Approval has previously been unchanged at 45 percent for five weeks, but has varied between 44 and 45 percent for the past eleven.

June 7-13, 2018 - 45 percent of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, unchanged from the previous week, and 52 percent disapprove, down one point. The approval percentage has now stood at 45 percent for five consecutive weeks, and varied between 44 and 45 percent over the past ten weeks.

May 31-June 6, 2018 - According to this week’s tracking poll, 45 percent of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, unchanged from the previous week, and 53 percent disapprove, up one point. The approval percentage has now stood at 45 percent for four consecutive weeks, and varied between 44 and 45 percent over the past nine weeks.

May 24-30, 2018 - 45 percent of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, unchanged from the previous week, and 52 percent disapprove, a one point downtick. The approval percentage has been 45 percent for three consecutive weeks, and varied between 44 and 45 percent over the past eight weeks.

May 17-23, 2018 - According to this week’s tracking poll, 45 percent of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, unchanged from the previous week, and 53 percent disapprove, a one point uptick. The approval percentage has varied between 44 and 45 percent over the past seven weeks, and between 43 and 45 percent since the second week of March.

May 10-16, 2018 - According to this week’s tracking poll, 45 percent of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, a one percentage point uptick from the previous week, and 52 percent disapprove a two point decrease and the lowest level measured since early May 2017. The approval percentage has varied between 44 and 45 percent over the past six weeks, and between 43 and 45 percent since the second week of March.
