Here’s to 2017: a year for the curious!

Here’s to 2017: a year for the curious!

2017 was a big year for SurveyMonkey.

It was the year we took a close look at our DNA as a company and discovered a new way of looking at our goals, reimagining not just our brand but our mission as a company: power the curious.

Who are the curious? They’re you: the people who aren’t afraid to ask the tough questions—and ask a lot of them. We believe it’s the curious that drive business forward, by asking questions that help innovate and improve the way business works.

Our philosophy is that there are few things more important to success than curiosity, and we’re proud to be the tool you use to exercise yours. So to mark this new year, we wanted to celebrate you, and your curiosity. How do we know you’re curious? Let’s look at the stats.

That’s a lot of questions. But it’s more than that:

  • 17,295,860 surveys were deployed. If that number were in pizza slices, it would be greater than the total number of slices Americans consumed throughout the year.
  • We collected responses from 826,814,781 respondents. That’s more survey takers than the combined population of the U.S., Mexico, and Canada!
  • 12,959,979,492 individual responses were collected—that’s relatively close to each person on earth having two.

Of those billions of questions, which were the most popular? It’s hard to say, but we can tell you which survey templates were most widely used throughout the year:

2017 has been a big year for SurveyMonkey as company, but also as a product—and not just because we added some new color palettes and typefaces. We began projects that made real improvements to SurveyMonkey as a product.

-We completely reimagined the user experience and the survey-taking experience of our product.

-We began the first step in a long-term project to use machine learning and artificial intelligence to make surveys and survey taking a better, more productive experience.

-We partnered with some of the most important workplace apps and services like Slack and Microsoft to add surveys to peoples’ everyday workflows.

We’re looking to add a ton of new functionality and features to SurveyMonkey to make it even better than it already is. In the meantime, if you need tips to start your 2018 surveys off on the right foot, we’ve got you covered.

Make sure you treat your respondents like human beings and they’ll give you human answers. Asking too much from respondents can lead to burnout. Make sure you walk the line. Remember to take steps to ensure people are giving thoughtful answers.

Follow these tips and your 2018 surveys are bound to be even better than the ones you sent in 2017. So here’s to your curiosity, and to billions more questions in 2018.
